Little Spotnose

Description

Pantera, baby fm Spotnose, laying on my largest normal adult fm, JD. JD is a BIG girl...pushing 5 ft...and totally dwarfs little Pantera! LOL Though JD is in shed here (her color is a bit dull) you can still see some of the pattern/color differences between the two.

And a bit on the Spotnose morph itself...

potnoses can be hard at times to pick out from normals, b/c they can be a subtle morph. I am posting this particular photo of Pantera to show some of the "markers" I have seen with Spotnoses. Here are a few things to look for.

1) - The spots on their noses-Normals can have these too, and I believe it has turned out not all spotnoses have them, so it is not a definite marker. Pantera does have a spot on the very tip of her nose that you can see in this photo.:) BTW my big normal female BP has a spot on her nose, off to the side and she DO NOT fit the other things listed below like Pantera does! LOL

2) - Head pattern-Some can be quite prominent, kind of like that of the Spider morph. But others, like Pantera, can be more subtle but it's definitely there.:)

3) - Light dorsal-The scales on their dorsal is several shades lighter when compared to the scales in the pattern on their sides. This carries through to at least some Spotnose combos. With Pantera you can really see it on the lower half of her body.

4) - Busy pattern-All Spotnoses seem to have somewhere between busy and very busy with their pattern. I don't know if this is really part of the morph, or if they just haven't been bred selectively for reduced patterns the way spiders have. And with Pantera you can see she definitely has a VERY busy pattern.

Other points-Now I don't know for sure if this holds true for all Spotnoses but I have noticed Pantera's eyes are different then that of a normals. They are lighter, and seem to have a kind of coppery-silver appearance. Also her belly...she has some SERIOUS train tracks going! Again something I can't say for certain holds true for all individuals of this morph. But it's VERY prominent on Pantera! Train tracks have been an on going topic with some hets...particularly if they are a sign that an individual snake is het for Pied. Some say it is, others say it's not. I say it's not a definitely sign. But then you have to wonder if maybe these "normals" just haven't produced pieds yet, for one reason or other, and maybe they are Het Pieds. I have also heard that Spotnoses mostly have black in their pattern, with little to no blushing or flames. Pantera is just like that but again I'm not sure if all are like this.

In conclusion of this short novel Pantera is a Spotnose! :D
